Monday

I didn't write down all of my calories from yesterday...but I do have a list:

2 C. coffee w/ creamer
1 protein shake w/ banana
120 oz. water
1 cucumber
1 serving veggie lasagna
1 apple
8 honey-wheat pretzels
1 rice cake
10 tortilla chips
1 tofu dog w/ chili
1 graham cracker

Exercise:
20-min. sprint run
abs
40 push-ups

Sunday

I decided that Sunday will be a good day for juice-fasting. Our doctor recommends doing it once a week to give your digestive tract a break from having to digest food. It feels really good to take a break from eating and get nutrients just from juicing. I did still have my coffee...that will be one big hurdle to cross when I get the nerve to try - I am FOR SURE the ultimate coffee drinker...just love the dang stuff!

Here's my juicing from Sunday (I will try to get more juice in me next time...)
2 C. coffee
10 oz. fresh orange juice
12 oz. fresh grapefruit/apple juice
20 oz. fresh carrot/green pepper/celery/spinach
1 C. hot tea

Below 140...yah!!! :)

I stepped on the scale and read, much to my surprise, 139.5 pounds!

I've been fighting to get below 140 for a great long while now.

I'm mostly surprised b/c I didn't work-out very much this week b/c I've been battling this sinus thing AND I was on my period...two strikes against weight loss.

I'll pick back up tomorrow on my writing down foods that I eat.

I want to change my "free" day to Saturday. One reason is that since I weigh that morning I think it would be the best day to take a little more lax. Also, I want to start juice-fasting on Sundays. We'll see how it goes/how I feel about it. I have juice-fasted in the past...but it's been years. I always feel great, energized and "light" after doing it. But I've never been consistent on it.

I've been naughty...

I haven't been eating bad...or not exercising...but I haven't been updating my blog like I said I would...every day.

I had a really rough week last week. And I am not feeling well now. Yesterday I went to bed at 6. I've had horrible headaches for the last few days that have pretty much knocked me out. And also sinus issues. I have to go get ready for work now...ugh!

I gained a 1/2 pound last week...back to 141. But, I started my period this week so I pretty much expect that. I went 20 days from cycle to cycle this last time. Sure would like to have a normal 28-day cycle! It's exhausting having your period every 14-21 days!!! For the past 2 1/2 years.

That is all for now...I will be better. But not promising anything until I feel better. Thanx, Janet, for the comment and holding me accountable!!!

Weigh-in

Well, I've waited until the afternoon to post my weight from this morning...b/c I've been hoping that when I step on the scale...for the 20th time today...it would read just 1/2 pound lighter. Just a 1/2 a pound...that's all I'm asking for (this week) ;).

Anyway...it never happened...but the good news is that all 20 times that I stepped on the scale (before work-out, after work-out, after eating, etc.) it read the same number...I'm encouraged by that.

O.k., here's the numbers: I weighed in at 140.5 pounds. So...I only lost 1/2 pound this week...but I ate clean and exercised well so I'm happy.

running/walking routes

there is a great website that you can access to find out certain distances you run/walk. It's not as good as a wheel, but it's better than a Honda (especially if you run on paths or off-road at all).

Go to www.usatf.com
Click on "sports" then "road running" then "running routes" (to the left of the screen) and finally "create a route". I like to use the satellite to see the roads better...especially if I'm tracking somewhere I'm not too familiar with...it's just easier.

Let me know what you think!

I weighed myself on Saturday and had lost 3 pounds. :) 3 down...16 to go.

Today was a good eating day, but not great...I had a latte from Starbucks. It's amazing how a little drink can throw you all off! I know the day isn't over...but I'm calling it a night (heading upstairs when the kids go up so I won't be near food...that's a good thing!)

Exercise:
Legs (good but not great w/out...will do more tomorrow), abs, push-ups and stairmaster for 30 minutes. Worked good and hard at the gym over-all today.
And then the kids and I went on a 2-mile hike (but wouldn't really count that as exercise...just a fun activity...except for when I was carrying Brandon...as he put it "how can you carry such a heavy boy?"--exactly, Brandon Pre!!)

Food:
85 oz. water
2 C. of coffee w/ creamer (this is killing me...I HATE typing that every day!) - 92 calories

1 graham cracker - 120 calories (1385)

total: 1385 calories.

I have been losing a little weight...I'm going to wait until tomorrow to post a number as an "official" weigh-in. I will weigh myself every Saturday. I plan on taking Sunday off as a "free day"...and w/ that will be no postings of what I eat as I don't want to ever look back and feel guilty for having a reward day. I'm pretty sure I'll still maintain a pretty normal eating regime...but want to have the opportunity if I want to. And this Sunday will probably be one of indulgence...we're going to a Superbowl party and I will thoroughly enjoy myself while partying and watching the Steelers. I can't wait!!!! :)

Wednesday...

there is still a little day in Wednesday left...but I have a moment to write down my daily exercise/food intake so I thought I would do it. I plan on having a cup of hot tea still tonight...but other than that I am done eating.

Here's the scoop for the day:
Food:
2 C. of coffee w/ creamer - 92 calories
10 oz. of green juice (spinach, 1/2 lemon and 1 1/2 apples) - 125 calories (guessing on this one) (217)
6 raw eggs - 102 calories (319)
1 apple - 53 calories (372)
100 oz. of water
1 graham cracker - 120 calories (492)
1 Tbsp. almond butter - 95 calories (587)
big salad w/ 1 homemade flour tortilla, 2 tsp sour cream, lettuce, tom, green onions, sprinkle of cheese and 1 Tbsp of vegetarian refried beans - 250 calories (again, guessing...but don't think it could be over that...mostly was all lettuce) (837)

total: 837 calories
I should mention that even though I am keeping a calorie count...I am more interested and concerned w/ the type of food that I am eating rather than the actual calories consumed. I do think, though, to have an idea of the number of calories you eat is good...at least at this stage of my journaling. I do NOT recommend the "non-fat" or "low-fat" versions of items...since the fat is usually replaced w/ artificial (chemical and toxic) flavorings and substances. Not that I'm perfect on that (obviously from my menu), but I am conscious of it.

Exercise:
3.25 miles on treadmill, biceps and triceps, abs and 20 push-ups.

Now, off to drink my hot tea. :)

Some Tips That Have Helped Me

  • brush teeth after every meal.
  • sit down to eat every thing.
  • do not eat sugary snacks while watching tv or on computer
  • keep food journal
  • drink lots of water - always have it w/ you.
  • get a lot of rest.
that's all for now...as I get more I'll post more. :)

Tuesday...

Food intake:
2 bananas - 144 calories
1 apple - 53 calories (197)
6 eggs - 102 calories (299)
water - 90 ounces
2 C. of coffee w/ creamer - 92 calories (391)
1 lightly salted rice cake - 30 calories (421)
2 Tbsp. almond butter - 190 calories (611)
1/4 C. raisins - 130 calories (741)
1 piece of pizza - 340 calories (1081)
3 graham crackers - 180 calories (1261)
3 celery sticks - 3 calories (1264)
1/4 C. almonds - 206 calories (1470)

total: 1470 calories. The pizza was a killer - calorie-wise. But I'm still o.k. w/ the final number for the day. I was hungry pretty much all day yesterday...had a hard work-out...need more veggies. We are going to the store today to stock up on veggies for salad and munching.

Work-out for Tuesday: 4 miles on treadmill (2 miles of intervals), abs and push-ups. Bre did push-ups w/ me - I was pretty impressed w/ her strength...she actually did a couple! Brandon looked cute trying and yelling at the top of his lungs "I did it!" as he was bending he's knees up and down.

Monday...

Today was a better day...I am still a little tired...but recovering quickly. Yesterday was awful! I was so tired that I almost fell asleep in church! I came home and promptly curled up in bed (I think I did make lunch for the kids first...but that's all a bit foggy so, who knows "for real"). Anyway...my eating was good but I didn't exercise. The show really took a lot out of me!

Anyway...

Today:
I ran 3.25 miles (on a treadmill) and lifted heavy on legs (lots of squats...lots like a total of 300 and wall squat for 5 minutes - that's grueling), I also did a good ab work-out and my 20 push-ups.

Food:
6 raw eggs - 102 calories
2 rice cakes - 70 calories (172)
2 Tbsp. almond butter - 202 calories (374)
1 banana - 72 calories (446)
1 apple - 53 calories (499)
3 raw carrots - 63 calories (562)
1/4 C. steamed carrots - 12 calories (574)
3/4 C. organic w.w. pasta - 210 calories (784)
1/4 C. tomato sauce - 20 calories (804)
2 C. of coffee w/ creamer - 92 calories (896)
100 oz. of water
2 graham crackers - 130 calories (1026)
1 C. hot tea

Ended w/ 1026 calories...going to go watch a movie w/ the kids and then go to bed...too-ta-loo!!! :)

the day after a very long week...

Thursday through Saturday were our show days at OASIS...so I have been up early and out late every day. I don't know if I'm going to record food today or not...b/c I really just need a day of not thinking about anything...but, I've been doing pretty well. I did have pizza and a glass of wine last night for dinner. But, the rest of the day was all fruits and veggies and nuts (and dried fruit) so, considering the circumstances I was happy w/ it. I will get on track, exercise and recording daily food intake tomorrow...It was a fun week but I'm ready to play w/ my kids! Haven't seen them all week!

Tuesday

It's been a looong day! I'm working the show this week, which means 10-12 hour days every day.

Anyway...food is an issue, too, b/c I am not allowed to bring my own food into the stadium. I did sneak in an apple today, though, and nobody cared...so I might try for more tomorrow.

No exercise today...I set my alarm for 5 to get up and go but Bre came in just before that after having a nightmare...I deemed that more important than a work-out.

But, my eating was healthy:
6 raw eggs - 102 calories
3 C. coffee - 135 calories (gotta cut back here!)
1 rice cake - 40 calories
1 Tbsp almond butter - 95 calories
1 banana - 72 calories
1 tofu dog - 45 calories
1 hotdog bun - 110 calories (I got home at 8 pm...had to eat something for dinner and it was quick and easy)
2 C. salad - 200 calories (guessing?)
1 apple - 55 calories
1 handful raw nuts - 85 calories
1 cookie - 100 calories (a total waste!!)
2 organic fruit leathers - 80 calories
70 ounces of water

total calories consumed: 1119 calories
See you tomorrow! I'm tired!

Here we are...

So...I know a number of people that have started a weight loss blog. I had been thinking about doing it but just didn't know if I could put myself out there or not. Then someone that I don't know all that well but seems to be a pretty private person started one I decided it was my turn. There are a number of reasons why I do and don't want to do this. But, I think the good out-weighs the bad. So, here I am.

I want to have more of a health journal to look back on...that is my biggest 'pro' to posting my success/failures.

I have a hormone-level issue that started waaaaay back when I was a teenager but didn't manifest itself until after Brandon was born. About 18 months ago my doctor told me "well, you're a mess but we're going to help you." When I heard this I was actually relieved b/c it meant that my weight gain, my topsy-turvy emotions and my extra monthly period (two per month!) were not all in my head and really were issues that needed to be dealt w/. Now, coming from someone that likes to do things on the natural side, meant that the food supplements that I needed to help w/ my hormones were extremely expensive. Therefore, after taking them for a few months (and I did notice progress for those months), I had to stop taking them. And now, I'm right back where I started. So...I'm not really sure if I will be able to lose weight. I think tracking my daily calories/exercise regimen will help me realize if I can or not.

I am not one of those people that don't like to exercise and I'm not one of those people that don't like the taste of fruits and vegetables...so, I'm hoping that by holding myself (and having others help w/ that) accountable to every thing that enters my mouth and how often I work out will be a good thing...even if I don't lose weight (which may or may not happen).

So, here we go:

Starting weight: 144 pounds
Goal weight: 125 pounds

What I ate today:
90 ounces of water
2 cups of coffee w/ creamer (92 calories)
6 raw eggs (102 calories)
1 cup of salad (romaine lettuce, tom, green onions, almonds, olive oil/balsamic vinagrette dressing) (100 calories - I'm guessing on this one)
3 lightly salted rice cakes w/ (90 calories)
2 Tbsp almond butter (190 calories)
3 celery sticks (3 calories)
1 cup of hot tea
1/2 cup steamed carrots (3 calories)
1 tofu dog w/ (45 calories)
1 hotdog bun and (110 calories)
1/4 avacado (72 calories)
10 tortilla chips (140 calories)

Ok, I just calculated that twice and both times came up the same - 947 calories. I was expecting more. I want to be around 1200 calories so I will have to work at getting more in me. At least, except for the tofu dog/bun, it is all good foods. (I just added another 40 calories w/ an organic fruit snack)...a little closer to my goal-calorie intake.

I ran 3.5 miles today. It was a great morning outside and an easy and fun run.

I'm excited for the opportunity to write down what I do in hopes to have a healthier lifestyle. Thanx for coming along!!
